red rain

There are different versions of songs… and the are different versions of singers. The Peter Gabriel who was the lead singer of Genesis would seem to be a different version than the Peter Gabriel who went solo.
But sometimes we bring with us the person we used to be. The idea for this song had kicked around in Peter’s head since his early solo career right after Genesis… It was about a village punished for their sins in the form of a blood-red rain… This song starts off the “SO” album by Peter Gabriel and was released in 1986…
It reminds me of rainy season here on Roatan… especially the way it builds… When it rains here in Sandy Bay, the metal roof starts off with slow light tapping and builds to a crazy loud torrent of sound… It’s scary and relaxing at the same time…

Listen to the cymbals in the song at around 4:29… That’s the work of Police drummer Stewart Copeland… handpicked by Gabriel because no one gets the sounds the way Stewart does… Enjoy it…
