ya gotta’ do the work

This is my dog Forrest… Forrest Gump. I didn’t name him. I did add the GUMP part… his name is perfect because he loves to run. He looks regal in this picture...

Forrest is an island dog. There are many here on Roatan. Fortunately there are many people here who love to help these dogs when they can. One of these friends reached out to me and said he’d be a perfect match for me… She was right… AND I’ve learned a lot from Forrest…

He, like many dogs on the island, is susceptible to skin conditions.

In his case it is a yeast infection. It takes time and constant monitoring to get rid of it. Because of his thick German Shephard inherited coat, it tends to come back.

It’s a lot of work… But to me, he’s worth it.

To get rid of this particular infection requires a regimen of meds four times a day, baths with a particular shampoo several times a week, and lots of brushing over a couple of months.

When I adopted Forrest, he was in deep discomfort. The person who had owned him had left him chained up, outdoors, on a short leash and with little shade…

It took a few times to get this infection under control. What I learned is that you can’t cut corners… or it will come back.

In other words…
